Meet the 2016 Executive Board

Johanna Burstein '17

Co-Chief Executive Officer 

Johanna Burstein is a double-major in Sociology and German and also pursuing the Markets and Management Certificate at Duke University. In addition, she rowed for the first three years and helped bring her team to the NCAA Championship for the first time in the school's history. Currently, she is treasurer for Future Is Now (FIN), an organization that focuses on instilling confidence, education and leadership by mentoring 4th and 5th grade girls in Durham Public Schools. Johanna works at the Duke Hospital in the Center for Study of Aging & Human Development and is responsible for writing and redesigning the department’s WordPress software. In addition, Johanna is working on her thesis paper for Sociology where she is researching and writing about whether or not the death penalty affects the rates of recidivism. This past summer, Johanna was a marketing intern at IAC Applications where she performed competitive analyses and also launched AB and multivariate tests. In her free time, Johanna enjoys spin and Zumba classes, cooking and trying out new foods, traveling and Sudoku.

Lena Patel '18

Co-Chief Executive Officer 

Lena Patel focuses her studies on biology, neuroscience, and economics at Duke University. She is President of Let's Be Well RED, the undergraduate branch of the international NGO, that aims to eliminate iron-deficiency anemia in India. She volunteers with FEMMES (Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering, and Science), which works to get young girls in the community interested in the sciences by doing STEM projects with them. Also, she is involved in NeuroCare, which raises awareness about mental illness amongst the community. She spent her past two summers working at Kaiser Permanente, the largest healthcare provider in the U.S., as an operations and analytics intern, and at SmartBiz Loans, an SBA loan underwriting agency, as a loan specialist. In her free time, she is an avid athlete who is currently getting certified as a fitness trainer. 

Ya Fang '17

Chief Financial Officer 

Ya Fang is a economics major at Duke University with a double minor in education and Asian & Middle Eastern studies (with a Chinese concentration). She interned at a boutique investment bank during her sophomore spring semester while enrolled in the Duke in NYC program. She participated in the Duke Engage program her sophomore summer, where she taught migrant children English for 12 weeks. As a junior, Ya spent her summer in NYC working for JP Morgan in S&T. She will be returning to JP Morgan after graduation as a full time analyst on the institutional commodities sales desk. On campus, Ya is also involved with several other business organizations, namely Scale & Coin and Business Oriented Women. She enjoys playing tennis, watching stand-up comedy, and is currently learning hip hop.

Gabrielle Falco concentrates in chemistry, biochemistry, and biology at Duke University. On campus, Gabrielle is part of Army ROTC and acts as a company commander in the program.  She is also a tutor for chemistry, physics, and statistics for her peers.  In the community, she volunteers at the Duke Hospital in the Heart Center and a local Durham organization called El Centro. This past summer, she trained and was evaluated as a future Army officer at Fort Knox in Kentucky.  This summer, she is looking forward to interning with Army medical personnel at Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany. In her free time she enjoys playing piano and going to football and basketball games.

Rhea Bergman '17

Chief Investment Officer 

Rhea Bergman is majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Statistics. On campus, Rhea is a member of the varsity rowing team and enjoys spending her free time reading and painting. This past summer, Rhea worked at IRA Services Trust company in Palo Alto, California and looks forward to future work experience in this field.
